LBJ and Donald Sterling: Cut from the same cloth

Christopher Harris

These Negroes, they‘re getting pretty uppity these days and that‘s a problem for us since they‘ve got something now they never had before, the political pull to back up their uppityness. Now we‘ve got to do something about this, we‘ve got to give them a little something, just enough to quiet them down, not enough to make a difference.

These are well-documented statements from recordings of LBJ speaking candidly about his personal feelings about black folks. It appears that hyphenated-Americans have never got their panties in a bunch over LBJ’s comments.

The question is, “Why not?”

Perhaps it’s because they believe LBJ should get a pass “because he did so much for Negroes?” However they don’t appear to really STOP and THINK about those heartfelt statements.

What LBJ wished upon blacks was the current welfare state, which engendered a state of perpetual dependency.

Donald Sterling, the owner of the Los Angeles Clippers professional basketball team of the NBA was recorded saying something eerily similar to the words of LBJ. The recordings were released by his girlfriend, who is apparently also seeking to gain some money from Mr. Sterling.

After Sterling explained his sentiments on how black Jews and white Jews are treated differently in Israel, the mixed-race woman reminded him that most of his team’s players are African-American, to which Sterling comments:

I support them and give them food, and clothes, and cars, and houses. Who gives it to them? Does someone else give it to them? Do I know that I have — Who makes the game? Do I make the game, or do they make the game?

The woman then compares racial discrimination to the Holocaust, and says,

And you’re Jewish. You understand discrimination.

Mr. Sterling then disagrees with the analogy and says ,

“There’s no racism here. If you don’t want to be walking into a basketball game with a certain person, is that racism?”

Donald Tokowitz (now known as Donald T. Sterling) has owned the LA Clippers since 1981, and in the meanwhile has indeed “done so much for negroes”, including turning a few hundred of them into temporary multimillionaires.

Additionally, the Los Angeles chapter of the NAACP had been working closely with Sterling for at least 15-20 years. Why? Because he has made numerous contributions to the black community in southern California, including creating an endowment at a predominantly black college in the LA area and a scholarship program for black students at UCLA. Back in 2009, he reportedly donated $10,000 to $15,000 to the NAACP.

LA Chapter President of the NAACP Leon Jenkins was reportedly in preliminary discussions with Sterling for him to give even more money to black students at UCLA. Speaking of his [Sterling’s] contributions to the NAACP, Jenkins said,

That is something that shows that there is a consciousness of the plight of African Americans in this country,

Jenkins has quote the mission of the NAACP, in support of Sterling:

The mission of the NAACP is to eradicate discrimination and racial hatred in all its forms, and each year our executive board votes on who we decide that we are going to honor,” and then he added, “Mr. Sterling has given out a tremendous amount of scholarships, he has invited numerous African American kids to summer camps, and his donations are bigger than other sports franchises.”

But what I find most interesting is that, according to records obtained from the Public Accountability Initiative website,, an independent data research tool, the now reviled “racist” owner of the LA Clippers, HAS ONLY DONATED TO DEMOCRATIC CANDIDATES.

Donald Sterling & L.A. NAACP head - UA Edit

In what is getting very little coverage in the lamestream media is the fact that 81 year old Sterling is a dyed in the wool DEMOCRAT!!

Between 1990 and 1992 Donald Sterling made a $2,000 donations to the former New Jersey Senator Bill Bradley, a $1000 donation to current Vermont Senator Patrick Leahy, as well as a $1000 donation to the recalled former governor of California Gray Davis.

Unlike LBJ, this Democrat is not getting a pass. Perhaps it’s because he’s Jewish?
