Should poor “African-Americans” simply leave the cities?

Christopher Harris

While perusing the Wall Street Journal online, I came across this article by William McGurn, entitled, “Best Poverty Cure: Escape From Baltimore”. Mr. McGurn started out by saying:

“Of all the ‘solutions’ for post-riot Baltimore, the best—at least for African-Americans trapped in poverty—appears to be the one that attracts the least notice: Find a new town to call home.”

As an American Black Man, I thoroughly disagree with Mr. McGurn. The problem is not with the city of Baltimore itself, or any other urban area for that matter. The problem is with the entire ideology and subsequent CULTURE of “African-Americanism”.

THAT DUDE, Booker T. Washington (1856-1915) explained the “African-American” mindset and CULTURE when he said, “Among a large class, there seemed to be a dependence upon the government for every conceivable thing. The members of this class had little ambition to create a position for themselves, but wanted the federal officials to create one for them.” He said that over 100 years ago, and since then, year after year, generation after generation, it has proven to be true.

The biggest problem is not the lower economic class “African-American”. The biggest problem is their enablers. Meaning, the folks who actually benefit in many ways from having one class locked in the grip of perpetual poverty. Those folks are the Leftist/Regressive/Socialist minded White Democrats, and their Marxist minded “African-American” flunkies in the “middle class”. The “African-American” middle class…the bourgeoisie, the erudite members of the “Intelligentsia”, are the very ones who enable the bad behavior of the “African-American” lower class, and thus, help to perpetuate poverty of the mind, body, soul, and wallet, generation after generation.

Booker T. Washington also spoke about the “African-American” bourgeoisie over a hundred years ago, because he was fighting against their like back then, in the form of their progenitor, W.E.B. DuBois. He said, “There is another class of coloured people who make a business of keeping the troubles, the wrongs, and the hardships of the Negro race before the public. Having learned that they are able to make a living out of their troubles, they have grown into the settled habit of advertising their wrongs — partly because they want sympathy and partly because it pays. Some of these people do not want the Negro to lose his grievances, because they do not want to lose their jobs.”

But even before Mr. Washington spoke about this problem, THAT DUDE, Frederick Douglass (1818-1995), wrote about it in the January 1862 issue of Douglass’ Monthly (which ran from 1858-1863), in an essay entitled, “What Shall Be Done with the Slaves If Emancipated?”  It’s a powerful and poignant essay in it’s entirety, but this one thing stood out to me. He said, “Let us stand upon our own legs, work with our own hands, and eat bread in the sweat of our own brows. When you, our white fellow-countrymen, have attempted to do anything for us, it has generally been to deprive us of some right, power or privilege which you yourself would die before you would submit to have taken from you.”

The problem for poor “African-Americans” is not that they are living in cities like Baltimore. The problem is that they are “African-Americans”, and not American Blacks. The problem is that the ideology of “African-Americanism” is one that is based on being incessantly aggrieved, and perpetually being a victim. It’s an ideology that, once accepting of it, requires that one embrace the idea that they are inherently inferior. One comes to believe that they are not capable of standing upon their own legs, working with their own hands, or eating the bread made from the sweat from their own brow.

So if you take someone who thinks and feels like that…and you move them from one place to another, the only thing that will change is the scenery. Unless they have a “meet Jesus on the road to Damascus” type of experience, as Saul did in Acts 9:1-22 (NKJV) when he accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior, and became the Apostle Paul, they are pretty much guaranteed to take Baltimore with them, where ever they go. God knew this very same thing, and that’s why, even though the Children of Israel were (and still are) his chosen people, in Numbers 14:20-35 (NKJV), he said that he would not allow any of the adults (people over the age of 20) who walked out of Egypt, to enter the Promised Land.

So just like the adult Children of Israel were not worthy to enter the Promised Land, the adult “African-Americans” who are the “Children of The Great Society” are not worthy to leave the cities that they created with their votes and their vices, because they will only bring their mindset with them. They were born and raised in the mindset of slavery, and they were unable to overcome it, which is why only two (Joshua and Caleb) of the nearly 2.5 Million who walked out of Egypt, were able to enter the Promised Land. God didn’t want them bringing their “stinkin’ thinking” with them. Without becoming American Blacks, essentially being “born again” of mind and spirit, and beginning to think and feel differently, particularly when it comes to Geo-Political, Socio-Economic issues, a mass exodus of “African-Americans” from urban areas does no one any good. Simply moving to another area (like the South), while maintaining the same ideology, is like packing up all of your junk from your old dirty, broke-down, roach infested house, and bringing it with you into your brand new house. Why would you be surprised when your new house quickly becomes roach infested also? Remember, no matter where YOU go, there YOU are!!

**Just for the record, this analogy is totally NOT limited to just “African-Americans”. It really is about ALL Leftist/Regressive/Socialist minded people, of any ethnicity, and any economic class. Leftist/Regressive/Socialist ideology in general is the problem. All you have to do is look at what happens when Leftist leave the sinking ships of places like California, Illinois, New Jersey and New York, which they created with their votes and their vices, and begin to infest places like Texas, Arizona, Colorado, Georgia and Florida with their ideology.**
