Veterans transfer pain to canvas

Leslie Brown

This weekend at the St. Charles Westbank Regional Library, in St. Charles Parish, there will be an art show to benefit the Veterans Housing Outreach Ministry.

The ministry is devoted mainly to helping disabled female veterans to find housing, clothing, food and jobs. Pain, depression, and art often intertwine as we think of some notable artists who have struggled with depression: Van Gogh, Picasso, Kahlo and other.

When the pain one feels can’t be expressed in words, sometimes it can be expressed on canvas, so the organization provides painting classes for the veterans for the therapeutic benefits provided.

A local artist, Nelson Snader of Metairie, donated some of his art to the cause noting that the veterans are always there for us and we need to be there for them.

While the politics of was is often up for dispute, the love of country veterans have to risk both life and limb is not. Do what you can to help veterans in your own community.
