Beauty from Ashes

Leslie Brown

A death rocks your world. When it’s a young person, even more so. We can “soak in our juices of sorrow” as my family puts it, or we can create beauty from the ashes; that’s what this daddy did.

Dr. William Krissoff’s son, First Lt. Nathan Krissoff of the United States Marine Corps was killed in Afghanistan by an I.E.D. As a way to honor his son, and serve his country, Dr. Krissoff signed up for the Navy Medical Corps with a desire to serve in Iraq, but was told he was “too old”.

Bill took every step he could and was wading through the red-tape to get an age waiver, when he and his wife were invited to meet with President George W. Bush. This was the opportunity Bill needed to present his request. A few days later, Bill received a call from his recruiter.

Some say Bill was crazy for leaving successful orthopedic practice; he called it an “honor”. Watch what happens.

Bless you Dr. Krissoff and thank you for you and your son’s service to our country.
