Bravery is not foreign

Leslie Brown

How far would you go to stand up for what is right? How far would you go to protect a friend; better yet a stranger?

We focus on Americans on this page, but this young lady’s actions were so brave, I just had to share.

We live in a world where it is easier to look away and not see the truth. We live in a world where Pharisees and the Sadducees walk right on by the battered and bloody, never offering to help. We live in a world where a bold-faced lie elicits no reaction.

It’s called “desensitization”. Using a totally random yet powerful example, what is your reaction if I say the phrase “PUPPY IN A BLENDER”? I would hope you recoiled in horror at the thought. What do you think “abortion” is? We cloak the horror in an abstract word that we have become desensitized to. We have does the same thing with sexual harassment and a myriad of other issues, like lying.

Tugce Albayrak died as she lived; seeking to give. Tugce a German native was studying to become a teacher. Responding to girls being sexually harassed in the restroom of a McDonalds by three men, she rushed to their aid. She gave her life for it.

A funeral was held on Wednesday for Tugce Albayrak, a German student who was killed for coming to the defense of two girls being harassed by a group of men in the bathroom of a fast-food restaurant.

The 23-year-old died on her birthday last Friday after her parents agreed to take her off life support. She had been in a coma since November 15th when a man attacked her in a McDonald’s parking lot.

Albayrak and her friends were eating at the McDonald’s restaurant in western Germany on the night of November 15th when they heard a scream coming from the bathrooms. She found two young girls being sexually harassed by a group of three men and immediately intervened.

The men were forced to leave the restaurant, and Albayrak returned to her seat and finished her meal with her friends. But when she left the restaurant a while later, one of the men was in the parking lot waiting for her.

Surveillance video footage shows the man, an 18-year-old, striking her in the head with either a baseball bat or a stone. She was knocked unconscious and never woke up.
