All Sorts of Happy Birthdays!
Today is the 239th birthday of the United States Marine Corps. Ironically I arrived in San Diego last night, where my hubby went to boot camp to visit with my parents!
“We Marines are truly blessed. We get to enjoy the sweet taste of freedom because we know its price.”
~ John Chipura, USMC
John Chipura survived the Beirut Marine Corps Barracks bombing in 1983. He wrote those words in 2000; later killed on September 11th, 2001 responding as a NYFD Fireman.
Our military and our emergency workers give and give, and offer their very lives if necessary. They give up the birthdays of their own children serving their country never knowing when their birthday will be their last.
A few months ago I was in line waiting at a book signing for Ben Carson. There was a couple behind me; the young man obviously a “Jar Head”. The two were just dating; not married. I’m sure I embarrassed the heck out of them both, but I told the girl, “You marry this man, Marines do what they say they are going to do, and if they say they are not going to do something, they don’t do it.” Those qualities are rare in this world indeed.
The family in the video below has been separated by both miles and time; the young father missing the birth of a new baby. Share the joy as he sees his beautiful wife, a new baby daughter and young, growing son. This is what our men and women fight for; their homeland and the ones in it they love.
