A “Knock-Out” of Values
I was saddened to read this week, that fall-out in the form of victims from the “Knock-Out Game” continues. If you are unfamiliar with the term, the so-called “Knock-Out Game” involves “sucker punching” some poor unsuspecting victim in the face in an attempt to render them unconscious with one well-placed blow. Good times, huh?
Hapless victims have even lost their lives in the name of this sicko past-time. What kind of society breeds such hate and anger? I posit that it is a society with little respect of, or adherence to a Judeo-Christian code of ethics. The youth who likely lack attention and love, are probably mirroring what they themselves have seen.
Without a “rule book”, or code of ethics, it’s “anything goes”! Let’s just make it up as we go along. That’s what we are doing in today’s society, and have cheapened life in doing so.
Having learned about ancient cultures such as the Incas and Aztecs in school, it was horrifying to read about their practice of sacrificing infants to one of several gods. The infants might have been strangled, given an intoxicating drink then left to die of exposure, or perhaps treated to a more “humane” blow to the head.
These ancient cultures didn’t have a Bible or the Talmud, for a rule book, so they DID make it up as they went. We’re pretty much doing the same thing now, except for sacrificing babies to one of several different gods, there’s just one; it’s called convenience.
Study: MMA brain injury risk higher than boxing. Researchers found nearly 13 percent ended in knockouts, while 21 percent ended in technical knockouts, usually after a combatant was hit in the head five to 10 times immediately before the fight was stopped. The study says the MMA head trauma rate also outpaces football and hockey. (Miami Herald 2014 summary)
( I do love me some M.M.A., but the fighters need to be made aware of the danger)
