The Softest Pillow; a Clean Conscience

Leslie Brown

What would you do if you found a backpack full of money; a lot of money?

Glen James of Boston had that exact experience.  In fact, the black backpack he stumbled upon had over $40,000 in cash and traveler’s checks and a passport.  Glen could have really used that money for basic needs that you and I likely take for granted since he was homeless.

What did Glen do? He took the money directly to the police, where he was awarded a special citation for his “extraordinary show of character and honesty”. The owner of the bag was eventually found and their property returned.

Ethan Whittington of Midlothian Virginia heard about this incredible act of integrity, and activated an account at an online fundraising site for James which quickly brought in a lot of money itself.  In fact, more money poured in for James than was in the backpack itself.

Plans were then made to get the money to James, as well as trying to secure a home and a job for him.

“Even if I were desperate for money, I would not have kept even a … penny of the money I found. I am extremely religious — God has always very well looked after me,” said James.

Thank you Glen James for your selfless act, and wonderful example.
