CNN National Security Analyst gets the political spectrum all wrong.

Christopher Harris

In an opinion piece posted earlier today on the CNN website, Peter Bergen, CNN National Security Analyst, and Director at the New America Foundation (funded by George Soros), stated that, “…since 9/11 extremists affiliated with a variety of far-right wing ideologies, including white supremacists, anti-abortion extremists and anti-government militants, have killed more people in the United States than have extremists motivated by al Qaeda’s ideology.”

This statement by Mr. Bergen is false on many levels, but it is primarily false because it begins with a faulty premise about the true orientation of the spectrum of Geo-Political, Socio-Economic ideologies. The most simple and accurate way to view the whole “Left vs. Right” conflict is from the perspective of “control”. In other words, when you move one direction or the other, who is gaining or losing “control”?

Moving in the leftward direction, “government” becomes more centralized and powerful, and the people within that entity called “government” gain more “control” over their fellow man. Moving in the opposite direction, or right, the power and influence of “government” (and the people who make up that entity) becomes more dispersed, localized and the individual citizen gains greater control over their own life. It’s that simple. Also, it must be noted that it is irrelevant whether that “government” is secular or religious in nature, it is still an issue of “control”.

Here is a simple and accurate diagram that well illustrates that point:

Political Spectrum of Founders

It is 100-percent wrong to characterize Islam as a “Right-Wing” religion and ideology for one simple reason. Islam offers no real “choice” to the individual. Islam is not just a religion, and it’s not just an ideology. Islam is in fact, an entire Cultural, Religious and Legal system, where the religious leaders (Imams) have almost absolute control. At the end of the day, the “choices” offered by Islam are to 1) Convert to Islam “voluntarily”, 2) Not convert to Islam, but live under the restrictions (loss of the Unalienable Rights that Americans believe in) ordained by Sharia Law for all those who are Dhimmi’s (Non-Muslims), 3) Be “converted by the sword” to Islam…which means to be executed in the name of Islam.

When you gaze back at that diagram, you should be asking yourself, “How can Islam be a Far-Right Ideology, when everything they do is based off the use of, or the threat of brute force?” The rest of his article is filled with just as much bunk, but when you understand that Bergen started out with a completely fallacious premise, it becomes clear that its nearly impossible for him to get anything else correct.

This is a very strange way of looking at the traditional political spectrum. Just as Communists are on the far left, Fascists are traditionally on the far right. both of these groups represent oppression and lack of choice, just for different reasons. The middle ground is where the rule of law and democracy resides. My suggestion is that you do a little more work in understanding political theory before you take liberties changing a classically accepted paradigm.

Thanks for reading the article and taking the time to reply Matt.

Now, let me explain some of the many reasons why you are off-base.

First and foremost, just because something is a “classically accepted paradigm”, that in no way, shape, or form, means that it is correct. For example, here are a few other “classically accepted paradigms”…that are now soundly rejected, because they were proven to be false.
      1) It is impossible for a human being to run a mile in less than 4 minutes.
      2) It is impossible for man to create a “flying machine”.
      3) It is impossible for man to travel faster than the speed of sound…in a “flying machine”.
      4) It is impossible for man to go into outer space.
      5) It is impossible for man to travel to the moon.
      6) It is impossible for man to travel to the bottom of the ocean.
      7) A child in vitro is not a “human being”.
      8) Slaves, particularly those of African descent are not “human beings”, hence, it is perfectly acceptable to keep them in bondage against their will.
      9) People of African descent are genetically inferior to those of European descent.
      10) People of African descent can’t be fighter pilots, because they can’t see well at night.

I mean, I could go on and on…but hopefully you get the picture.

But the second thing is…you presented absolutely no compelling evidence to disprove what I wrote in the article, other than your stance being based on a “classically accepted paradigm” of politically theory.

Furthermore, do you realize that in order to be a “Fascist”, you have to be of the belief that THE STATE hold PRIMACY…OVER EVERYTHING?!?! Do you realize that the term “Fascist” comes from the Italian term, “fascismo”, which comes from the word “fascio”, which means to “a bundle”.

Do you realize that the very first documented use of that term was in…ITALY…by ITALIAN DICTATOR, Benito Mussolini, when he formed his political organization “Fasci Italiani di Combattimento” in 1919, which was renamed as the “National Fascist Party” in 1921??

Do you realize that Adolf Hitler was inspired by the actions and mindset of Mussolini? Do you realize that the Nazi Party was called the “Nationalsozialistische Deutsche Arbeiterpartei” which translates into English as the “National SOCIALIST German Workers Party”?? Do you realize that Hitler and Mussolini were staunch allies?

So Matt, basic logic would dictate that if SOCIALISM is by every definition a “Left-Wing” ideology…and Hitler was a staunch SOCIALIST, who was inspired by the actions of his future ally, Benito Mussolini…then how in the world is it possible for “Fascism”, which Mussolini pretty much invented, to be a “Right-Wing” ideology?!?!?!

Matt, you’re probably a decent guy…you probably like puppies, and you help little old ladies out with their groceries, and you make sure to call your mother on her birthday and every Mothers Day…but you have absolutely failed to use any logic in your response. Quite frankly, it was a sign of intellectual laziness for you to tell me I was wrong, simply because my article went against a “classically accepted paradigm”.

If I sound like I am being a little condescending to you…it’s because I am being a little condescending to you. But I am being less condescending than you were to me, when you “suggested” that I “do a little more work in understanding political theory before you take liberties changing a classically accepted paradigm.”

Have a nice day, and please feel free to come back and talk to me AFTER YOU have done a little more work in filtering “political theory” through basic logic.
